Before phone cameras

Orange is one of my favourite colours and as you might have noticed, I collect tins and love the 50´s...so this tin was a perfect find. It is also in very good condition!

Is there anything better than (hot) chocolate?

I used to love O'Boy cocoa as a child. I haven't yet find any old O´Boy packages, mostly only Makao (which I hated). Well, they are right for the shop museum collection anyway.

Tin fever

We visited a couple of flea markets today and I am happy to report that we found a lot of beautiful things. Here is a selected few: old cardboard boxes and metal tins:

Too old for the museum

Our shop museum is dedicated to things from the 50's and 60's and maybe even some things from the 70's. Every now and then we find irresistible things that are older than that. As these cannot be stored in the museum, we have to find a place for them in the house. Last weekend I bought a beautiful biscuit tin from the 30's. The oranges and blue-greens of the tin are exactly the same as in our Korento tableware! So it was easy enough to find a place for it in our kitchen.

Sweet things

Fazer Montpensier sweets were sold at least from the fifties on. Fazerin parhaat are even older. I love old sweet tins but don't much love the price people usually ask for them. 

Spice up your life

I buy every (cheap) little old spice tin I can find - not a lot of them around. This red pepper tin is made out of cardboard except for the lid. So you shouldn't exactly call it a tin, but I do anyway..

Dance on roses

Anything old is better than new, right? At least old biscuit tins are prettier than the new ones, I think.

I want a circus for Christmas!

What I want, I usually get. We bought Alessi's circus tin set for ourselves for Christmas. At the moment it is in the kitchen but I have to move it somewhere else after winter. The light in the kitchen is really strong in spring and any colours would fade in there.

On top shelves

Top shelves in the kitchen are not for gathering dust. They are a great place for a tin collection! No use to store anything useful there as the shelves are too high to reach without a chair and you'd just risk your health by reaching for everyday items.

I need some shelves

We have found a lot of stuff for the shop museum and now I guess we'll need to build some shelves as the drawers of the counter are getting full. Great! Below are the latest finds (from yesterday).

You sweet thing

Fazer still makes "Fazerin parhain" sweets so we could buy new contents for the old tin.

Back to school

Ms Ebba Masalin illustrated the most amazing educational (plant) boards for Finnish schools in the 30's and 40's. New productions can be bought in Taito Shop (link...). They are rather beautiful but the originals are even better as the colours are much deeper. The tins here are of new production, too. The whole product serie is new in fact, there were no tins with Ebba's illustrations when she was alive. I think she would have loved these, the colours and design are quite beautiful. I saw the new productions in one magazine or another and first wanted to have a table runner with Ebba's design (new product line this, too). Luckily I went to Taito Shop in Helsinki to see the product instead ordering the thing online right away. I was a bit disappointed as the supposedly black background seemed blue, not black. So the runners stayed in the shop and I bought two boards and the four tins instead.

New classics

You may have noticed that we collect old tins. Well, we also collect new ones as they will be old someday, won't they? the new ones have to be somewhat special, I don't buy every new tin I see (couldn't afford it even if I wanted to).
