More work

After the gazebo was finished we needed to rearrange the garden furniture. The old marble table top with an old sewing machine leg was a perfect little table for the gazebo patio. The chairs are from around the garden.

Ready for anything

Now the gazebo is finished! It was raining a bit yesterday evening, but it didn't matter at all as we were sitting inside the gazebo, good and dry.

And the living is easy

Today was a bit hot to clean the windows/rearrange the garden furniture etc but who cares, it is summer! This year I managed to change the hall door curtains for summer. The thick curtain is great in winter as it keeps the cold out and the thin curtain even greater in summer as it keeps the flies out.

Whiling away in a museum

Our little shop museum is ready - or as ready as a museum can be, the collection will of course (hopefully) grow as time goes by. The rest of the shop floor is in 'selling old and new stuff' use and there is even room to enjoy a cup of coffee (if I have made some). You are welcome to visit!

I need some shelves

We have found a lot of stuff for the shop museum and now I guess we'll need to build some shelves as the drawers of the counter are getting full. Great! Below are the latest finds (from yesterday).

I wonder why

The small English Laura Ashley table is called garden drink table. I wonder why they don't sell tables by this name in Finland. We drink a lot so you would think everybody sold drink tables, but no.

I would collect carafes but...

This one was a real find for 5 euros. Usually old glass carafes are too expensive for me but this time I got lucky. The carafe has a fun cap - you can use it as a glass. Useful when you want to have a drink while carrying the carafe from the kitchen to the living room and just can't wait for two seconds.

Define fun (or vacation)

Yesterday we woke up at six and at sevenish we were already moving furniture in the shop. The day before we had cleaned up an old shop desk (from around 40's) found in the garage. In addition my husband made a new top for it (the old one was plastic and it didn't look very good after years of use in a garage). Yesterday we moved the desk to the shop (with a tractor and a lot of elbow grease) and I rearranged the furniture to make room for it. I had ordered some new stock from Denmark/France and arranged the stuff on the desk. Meanwhile my husband did what husbands do: he built things (the gazebo of course). A good day all in all but we were both a bit tired around four thirty when we started to enjoy early dinner.

I wonder where does all our money go

I once again got a bit carried away when buying summer flowers. But they look good, don't they? The cut flowers are from my cottage garden so at least they didn't cost anything.

Shopping for the museum

As you might remember I plan to open the smallest shop museum in Finland some day. We found a couple of items from a Porvoo flea market on Saturday. Perfect for the museum collection!

Almost there

The gazebo is starting to look rather good. The front wall is still under construction and we haven't yet decided what to do with the floor but otherwise things are looking up. It is rather windy right now and already it was really nice to sit inside the gazebo.

More is better

I don't yet have enough flowering plants in Vårkulla's garden. The garden is much prettier than last year but I still want and need more flowers! I know I should plant more shrubs and trees but my heart yearns for colour and a possibility to cut flowers to vases both inside and out.

Morning coffee

Good morning everybody. We found new coffee tins to brighten up your morning coffee.

Three steps to heaven, step two

We are getting there with the gazebo, now there is a roof and the structure is stained black. The next step is to install the windows. We are still wondering what to do with the floor...maybe we'll use the teak panels we already have (bought them for the bathroom floor but as the painted concrete looked really good we never used the panels) or make a wooden floor and paint it. Stay tuned folks!
