From Sweden with love

We have collected coffee tins for some time and so far they have all been Finnish. This one is from Sweden but we have to get it for the beautiful 50's design.

Drawing on the walls

As we are going to change the wall papers in Vårkulla's living room, I wrote and my husband put a sticker
on the wall. Great to be an adult :)

The smaller the better

Sometimes smaller is better as is the case with these plates. They are all from the fifties when it was a popular hobby to paint ceramics.

Now do you hear?

Our speakers were on the floor and the sound was not too good. Then we remembered that we had these garden stools in store. And now we can again enjoy the good acoustics of a wooden house

More frost

One has to enjoy the beauty of the frost as one cannot enjoy freezing to death..

sunnuntai 26. tammikuuta 2014

Empty is better than none

Once again, we found a new glass bottle at flea market. This is even bigger than the previous ones. The collection is starting to look good!

lauantai 25. tammikuuta 2014

All is white

I think the little doves wish it were summer and they could go back to the cottage and enjoy all the beautiful flowers.

Ball of fire

The old chrystal globe looks great when the light is on, almost as it were on fire.

torstai 23. tammikuuta 2014

The sun was out

The sun was shining the whole weekend. It was a bit cold to sit outside, though and the chairs in our garden could keep their light snow cover.

This must be the first time in the whole winter when the wind wasn't blowing the ribbons!

Looks almost like summer

There is so little snow that these two birds could have as well been photographed in the summer. Well, it was almost -20 degrees when the picture was taken.

tiistai 21. tammikuuta 2014

Merry Christmas

The Christmas still has a hold in the garden. I'll have the Christmas ornaments outside till the photographer visits to take pictures for next year's Christmas story.

(joulu= Christmas)

Leaves or not

The lilacs look good even without flowers and leaves. I love the graphics of them. Of course I would prefer summer and all the green and lilac and wonderful scents.

Winter celebration

On Saturday we ate blinis. I got buckwheat flour as a birthday present from my aunt - we visited a farm market together at Kausala and the flour is from a local mill. Maybe this is the reason for the blinis tasting great.

Baby, its cold ouside!

It is cold and getting colder. Yesterday it was -15 and almost no snow. I feel sorry for my poor perennials, I hope they'll survive this awful winter. The garden looks pretty though, with all the frost.

lauantai 18. tammikuuta 2014

Just a little warmth

We have Christmas lights on our sauna's window shelf. The lights warm the window a bit and the frost makes beautiful ornaments.

Not for eating

My mum had big seashells as decorations when I was little. I saw these small ones at a flea market and they reminded me of my mum and of course I bought them. They are now in this fifties style bowl but I am looking for a small glass bowl as I think they would look better in a simple dish.

torstai 16. tammikuuta 2014

Can't almost believe it

We bought this from flea market, where else. I can't almost believe it but nowadays this is so me!

keskiviikko 15. tammikuuta 2014

Don't wanna spoil it

I bought this 50´s style magazine holder from Ellos. It is brand new but looks like it belongs to Marilyn Monroe's apartment! It looks so good empty that I might not ever put any magazines in it.

tiistai 14. tammikuuta 2014

Looking good

I made this brussel sprout/cold-smoked reindeer/walnut/cream cheese/lingonberry pie on Saturday. We chosed to take the picture before putting the pie in the oven. It looked good enough to eat :) The pie tasted ok but it was more of a novelty than a recipe to try again and fall in love with. The recipe was from the January number of "Glorian ruoka ja viini".

The most amazing thing about this pie is that we were driving through Kymenlaakso area and had to visit five stores before we found the sprouts We first tried Kausala's K-market and Kausala's S-market, then Kuusankoski's Lidl and Kuusankoski's S-market and finally found what we wanted in Citymarket in Kouvola's Veturi.

Glass and paper

I collect beautiful glass vases and art glass. And now it seems that I collect paper baubles, too. I bought this big one for home and I guess it will be in the living room long after Christmas.

sunnuntai 12. tammikuuta 2014

Nice place to have your home in

We live in an elevator shaft. Really, we do. Our living room used to be a shaft and there is still the elevator meter on the wall as a proof.

lauantai 11. tammikuuta 2014

Light up your home (or hair)

Of course we have candles at home, too. We bought these candle holders about 15 years ago. They used to stand behind our dining table at one of our previous homes -not a good idea as I almost burned my hair once.

perjantai 10. tammikuuta 2014

Something to remind us of the countryside

These two hang out on our living room cabinet and remind us about the life in the country. Of course there are not ceramic, flower covered piggies there, never mind the stone lambs, but you get the idea, don't you.

torstai 9. tammikuuta 2014

Polish the balls

This is just a normal command at our house :) These glass balls hang from the ceiling light and they get dusty and you need to polish them every now and then.

keskiviikko 8. tammikuuta 2014

As I already told you

I love books...I have them everywhere...these are at home in the living room and I have more of them in every other room, at Vårkulla and at the cottage.

tiistai 7. tammikuuta 2014

Towels for the new year

We bought these Kauniste towels as Christmas presents to ourselves. They'll go perfectly with our Korento crockery.

maanantai 6. tammikuuta 2014

Say cheese!

I have been looking for cheese knives for Vårkulla. I found these from Lene Bjerre. They were in 40 % discount and they look romantic enough to suit our Memory cutlery.

I usually throw away all boxes but these I just might save as we don't have place for the knives in the kitchen - I'll keep them in the boxes in the living room.

sunnuntai 5. tammikuuta 2014

Waiting for spring

Now that the Christmas is over, I wait for spring. It will be a long wait, I know, so in the meanwhile I enjoy looking at these swallows on a postcard...

lauantai 4. tammikuuta 2014

Not too cute

Lene Bjerre sells these not-too-cute hare pillows. By the way, if you happen to watch the movie "Lone Ranger"' please take note of the note-so-cute rabbits!

perjantai 3. tammikuuta 2014

New year, new calendar

I don't usually buy wall calendars but this one cought my eye. At the moment it is at home but I might take it to Vårkulla.
