It seemed so big

The wintry painting is from my parents. At their house it seemed really big but in our office at home it seems rather small. I already had the colourful vases collected on the side table and I think I should get some more (and bigger) to contrast with all the white of the painting.

Now I'll (always) need one more

The eternal trouble with collecting: we first bought one Scheurich vase from around the late 60's. Then we found one more. As a really good vignette needs odd numbers, we started to search for one more. Well, we found one...but then we found another one and now we have four and would need a fifth to make the vignette look good again. As these vases are rather cheap and I just love them, it was not an option not to buy the fourth one. Just guess, what'll happen right after I'll find the fifth one...well, the more the merrier.

Don't you dare die on me

As the summer is gone, I wanted to get some flowers to remind me of it. But as I am notoriously lazy care-taker of potted plants I bought porcelain "sedums" to get me through the winter. I found these in Sokos and they fitted very well in my turquoise vases from the 50's.

The bigger the better

I just love having a big dinner table! When we are four or more people for dinner there is still lots of room for decorations even though our dinner plates are rather big.

Side effects

We oiled the kitchen worktops last weekend and it seemed a good time to rearrange the stuff I have in the kitchen. The plate rack got a new spring look with pastel colours. And as we have a new glass cabinet in the living room I moved all the glasses from the rack to the cabinet and got room for my star copper pot collection.

I know

Yes, we have enough coffee cups already! But the new Issey Miyake cups for Iittala (link) were so beautiful we just couldn't resist buying new morning coffee cups for ourselves. Pink for me and green for the husband (couldn't have guessed this one without saying, now could you :).

Changing places

The orange vase was in the hall in Vårkulla for a while but now I decided to move it to our home where the decoration leans more to the 50's/60's. As I happened to have the exact same coloured blue nail polish as the decorations on the vase we took a picture before the move instead of photographing this at home. I guess at least half of my friends will hate the picture as the vase is rather bold, but here it is anyway.

Short fuse

I am no good at collecting. I need to have everything right away. Case in point: Klaus Haapaniemi designed Tanssi wall decorations for Arabia and I kind of wanted to buy all four at once. They were a bit too expensive and I decided to wait for awhile. Then, just after Christmas, Sokos in Helsinki sold these with 40 % off the price. I bought one (my husband thought they were still too expensive). Then, a week later, Sokos made an offer of 30 % off from the reduced price. This I just couldn't resist and bought the three I didn't yet have. So...it took me all of an week to create the collection. It is a good thing I don't collect diamonds..

Green leaves

For home I love the 1960's muddy colors. We found this Uppsala-Ekeby plate for a song in a flea-market in Kotka. It is by Sven-Erik Skawonius.

Where's the amaryllis, then?

I don't know if people put their red vases for sale as the Christmas is coming or if this was an coinsidence, but on Sunday I saw several red Kupittaan Savi vases in the flea-markets. I bought this one as it will be great for long stemmed amaryllis, don't you think?

Another man's souvenirs

You don't have to go travelling to buy souvenirs. This porcelain plate is a souvenir from Stratford upon Avon but all I had to do was to go the the local flea market...And as the plate is from the 1950´s I couldn't have bought it even if I had travelled to England myself

Turquoise dreams

Turquoise vases are my weakness, especially if the vase is from the fifties. I usually only buy ones in pristine condition. This one's lower handle was glued but I bought it anyway as the price was right and the repair was rather unobtrusive.

The smaller the better

Sometimes smaller is better as is the case with these plates. They are all from the fifties when it was a popular hobby to paint ceramics.

Pots and jugs

This small cabinet is from Pentik. On top of it sits an Arabia coffee pot from the 1930/1940 that I inherited from my nanny. The pitcher is from the 50's as is the milk jug, I think. Other stuff is new but looks nice enough.
