All that is left

My godmother had a restaurant Chez Marius in Mikonkatu, Helsinki from the 50´s to around the 90's. She gave a couple of Arabia ashtrays with her restaurant's logos to my parents as a present and now I have them. As my parents dind't use these at all, they are as good as new. I don't collect ashtrays but I love these two. The matchbox we happened to find in a flea market.

A great foursome

I got the big white Arabia platter from my mum. It has been standing on the living room table by itself. After looking at it for a while I decided to spruce things up a bit and put the table lamp on it. The vignette looked still a bit boring. After adding the two H&M apes, I was satisified. The brass apes go well with the brass rod of the lamp.

The bigger the better

I just love having a big dinner table! When we are four or more people for dinner there is still lots of room for decorations even though our dinner plates are rather big.

Short fuse

I am no good at collecting. I need to have everything right away. Case in point: Klaus Haapaniemi designed Tanssi wall decorations for Arabia and I kind of wanted to buy all four at once. They were a bit too expensive and I decided to wait for awhile. Then, just after Christmas, Sokos in Helsinki sold these with 40 % off the price. I bought one (my husband thought they were still too expensive). Then, a week later, Sokos made an offer of 30 % off from the reduced price. This I just couldn't resist and bought the three I didn't yet have. So...it took me all of an week to create the collection. It is a good thing I don't collect diamonds..

Thanks ma!

My mother had gotten this porcelain blue-and-white Arabia cutting board from my godmother in the 70s. The board was gathering dust in ma's kitchen cupboard and as it deserves a pride place it now gets to stay in Vårkulla's kitchen. A little correction...there is no dust in my mother's kitchen, this was just a figure of speech!

A new leaf

There will be some new leaves in the garden soon enough, but meanwhile I'll enjoy this "new" Arabia leaf from the 50's. The table runner is by Nadja Wedin for Hemtex.

Ready for easter

I found this cute old children's plate (Arabia, from the 40's)  at flea market and I think it will be a perfect table decoration for Easter.

Pots and jugs

This small cabinet is from Pentik. On top of it sits an Arabia coffee pot from the 1930/1940 that I inherited from my nanny. The pitcher is from the 50's as is the milk jug, I think. Other stuff is new but looks nice enough.
