Thank you cousins Tiina and Jaana for the handsome timepiece! It is perfect for our living room in Vårkulla.

Hello?
Do you remember the time when there was a phone in every hall? As we have an old house we thought we might as well have a phone table with a real phone in our hall.

On top shelf
I have been collecting coffee (and other) tins for some time now. All the top shelves in our kitchen were already full so there was a problem to find place for new ones. Then I realized that there is a lot of room on top of our (unused) ovens. And voilà, problem solved.

Retro for Halloween
We found a perfect siphon for Halloween (autumn) decoration. This one is from England and it's from the seventies. I don't usually buy anything seventies related but this happened to catch my eye at a perfect time of the year.

Christmas is a' coming
It is never too early to start planning for Christmas. I started on last weekend, you better start soon, too!

Toy story
We need more old toys! We bought a small cabinet for our toy collection but the collection is still too small.. I put our new Russian dolls on the top shelf and new fun lunch boxes on top of the cabinet but would like to fill the whole cabinet with old toys instead.

Just carry on
As we got my grandpa's chest (see here...) in the living room, we had to move the white chest of drawers to the bedroom and the little cabinet from the bedroom to the living room. That's life with old furniture and old houses...one thing leads to another and this usually means you have to carry (heavy) furniture around the house. Well, the little cabinet looks good in the living room and the radio and the globe that were on the floor, now have a good place on top of the cabinet.

What's up?
The chest my granpa left to my brother has found a new place in our living room in Vårkulla. The chest is scratched, its locks don't work (and one is missing altogether), its legs are wobbling and a dog (?) has eaten one corner so the plain wood shows but the chest still looks rather handsome. At least after I loaded all the stuff on the scratched top.

It is a question of balance
I always keep an eye for anything metal/rusty for the garden when visiting flea markets as I want to have decorations that can stay out for the whole year. This adorable two footed deer was a found as it only cost an euro. The seller couldn't see its beauty, good for me. The deer now stands on our patio table.

At the dressmaker's
I am not much of a dressmaker but still fell in love with these 50's handcraft magazines. And they go well with my old sewing basket (which is still empty, by the way).

Inspiration for cooking
These 50's cooking magazines give instructions for slaughter, tell you how to store bread in warm city apartments etc. and in addition there are really good recipes (e.g. meat-and-cabbage stew: take some meat, cabbage, salt and water and let them stew...).

I hate yellow
We had a yellowish ten euros Ikea pine table in our kitchen in Vårkulla for years. This morning I finally found a "new" table at tori.fi. The beautiful mint green wooden table has just the perfect patina (my husband would like to repaint it and I wouldn't). Love it, love it! And it only cost 60 euros, not bad for a heavy table that is really well made. And it even has a little drawer as a bonus.

Mushroom pie, anyone?
At last there are (highly poisnous) fly agarics by the roadsides! I don't mean to use them in pies but they are a sign that there are other mushrooms as well. I found a lot of chantrelles in July-early August but after that there haven't been any mushrooms in our neck of woods. The appearance of fly agarics gets my hopes up again.
