Where next

This table has moved from the cottage to Vårkulla and at Vårkulla it has moved from room to room and within the room from place to place. I think it has now found the right place...

It is still Christmas

There is still time to enjoy Christmas decorations. It is always sad to take them off. I guess I have to buy more non-Christmassy decorations...

The older you get

It must be true, the older you get, the more colour you need. Just to think that our home is black-white-grey...must do some changes there, too.

Proud to be a deer

Our old Christmas deers stand proudly in front of our new living room curtains.

More room at the table

Now that almost the whole living room is in use, we can have the long table in place all the time. There is plenty of place for two...

maanantai 23. joulukuuta 2013

Our new best friends

It would be lovely to get a dog (read: labrador retriever). For now we have to settle for these two.

Visiting Africa

Ok, we did not really visit Africa but we have a brown paper wall in Vårkulla's living room and it looks kind of like African desert. At least it will, when we hang this ostrich poster on the wall.

As I said before, I just love stars. These hang in Vårkulla's living room.

Have a nice before-Christmas-weekend!

Borrowed view

This is a term normally used in garden design but it says everything about this view, too. The Christmas tree is on the yard next to us and it can be seen from our living room window.

Kitchen coloured by Christmas lights

Our kitchen looks even more red than in daylight...we try to do something useful during daylight and so the photos are mostly taken in the evening.

Old things in new places

The old sofa table is as perfect I thought it would be. And the sinister "black death" educational poster looks good, too.

sunnuntai 15. joulukuuta 2013

Movie corner

We love movies and now we have dedicated a wall to them. My brother bought a bunch of old movie posters and of course we had to get some for Vårkulla. And here they are, at last on the "new" side of the living room.

lauantai 14. joulukuuta 2013

For a while

As Vårkulla has been totally Swedish before we bought it, everything with Swedish text catches my eye. I bought two pots for red Christmas flowers, I think red will go lovely with the black material of the pots (they are ceramic, not iron by the way). I don't want to buy the flowers yet, I'll wait for the last advent to be sure they'll make it through Christmas. The cinnamon sticks will have to do till then.

Christmas in the garden

This is the first year ever that I got to decorate the garden for Christmas. The gravel yard in the front of the house looks good with a little snow and the decorations come to their own. I need to find more metal decorations that are weather proof but this is a good start.

torstai 12. joulukuuta 2013

No more, please

So far there is just enough snow for the garden to look pretty. I so hope that this would be it and there won't be those awful snow blizzards we got for the last three years. I could live with a winter like this.

Decorate the decorations

Hmm...these garden lights are pretty as they are but I decorated them for Christmas. It wasn't so easy to find decorations that can take wind, rain and snow but at last I found these small metal hearts.

Sofa's new clothes

I changed some of the pillow covers and added a red blanket and the sofa bed is ready for Christmas. Last year I took off the greenish blanket but now I wanted to have more colour as the white bed cover under the blankets looked too dull.

Lamb for Christmas

We bought these from a local Christmas fair. They were so cute I had to get four of them.

sunnuntai 8. joulukuuta 2013

I love stars! I save just the most twinkliest for Christmas but otherwise one can decorate with them year around.

lauantai 7. joulukuuta 2013

Wish I could make them myself

I'd love to learn to make straw decorations but I am just not patient enough. This one is from a flea market and cost 2 euros...I guess the material would cost me the same if I had decided to try to make one myself...

perjantai 6. joulukuuta 2013

Just the right red

This red chair was found from our attic - as I already told you, the attic really is a treasure trowe! The chair is covered with paint stains but the pillow covers the worst of it and the red colour is perfect for Christmas.

torstai 5. joulukuuta 2013

If you want to read

I love books and have them everywhere. Here is a part of my kitchen book collection.

keskiviikko 4. joulukuuta 2013

First advent

It was first advent last Sunday and of course I decorated the whole house for Christmas - only the Christmas tree and flowers are still missing.

I bought pretty number tags from Ikea and I am going to hang a new number every Sunday till Christmas.

The Christmas calendar tells you which day it is (this is from Sunday, I know it is already the 4th)

tiistai 3. joulukuuta 2013

Judge the book by its covers

We found three more of these 50's crime novels and the collection is complete.

The Finnish cover from 1958 is also great. Especially as I happen to be a green eyed sister myself :)

maanantai 2. joulukuuta 2013

What else

First we got the type writer, then the globe. There is still room on the dresser for more...maybe some nice old pens or eyeglasses.

sunnuntai 1. joulukuuta 2013

Kitchen stuff

I have started collecting enamel kitchenware. These blue and white ones look nice, don't they?

lauantai 30. marraskuuta 2013

For your eyes only

The rolling pin is just eye candy, I don't use it when cooking. I would love to find old rolling pins but this new one doesn't look half bad...

perjantai 29. marraskuuta 2013

Christmas is coming

It is never too early to start decorating for Christmas. We bought these lovely paper baubles from Vanille home in Loviisa. They are meant for our living room's new side which is not finished yet. We bought a grey wool rug and these baubles are going to look perfect with it.

If you ever visit Loviisa, remember to also visit Vanille home (Aleksanterinkatu 4), it is a beautiful little shop that sells all kinds of decorations for your home.

Too good an idea

I put candles in an old potato measure - they look so good that I don't have the heart to use any of them. Must go and buy new candles and store them in a cupboard...

maanantai 25. marraskuuta 2013

Shoveling gravel

You wouldn't believe it when looking at this picture but it took about four weekends to dig the ditch and wheelbarrow the gravel from the front yard to here. And I am still not happy - next year we'll have twice this big gravel yard, you just wait and see!

sunnuntai 24. marraskuuta 2013

Do looks matter?

Of course looks matter! I just don't get the boxes or box holders you can buy for wineboxes. Use a carafe!

lauantai 23. marraskuuta 2013

50's again

This was found at the attic. It seems that the attic is a treasure trowe, it's a shame I don't dare to climb the stairs myself. I have to wait until my husband agrees to go there - it is dark there and lots of grime and dust so he is not greatly inspired...

perjantai 22. marraskuuta 2013

Framing the fish

I bought this frame from Ikea. I should buy a frame for one bigger graphic too, but I don't want the same frame and Ikea' s other frames did not inspire me. I'll keep the measurements with me, maybe I'll find a suitable one elsewhere.
